1907 Planned Equipment

Cornwall RR Motive Power

The Cornwall Railroad's steam roster of the time is to be most likely to be modeled from the following:

- Locomotive #1 (the Penryn), 1885 Baldwin 4-4-0: A Bachmann Spectrum Richmond 4-4-0 frame, drive, and drivers, Bachmann Spectrum old time Baldwin tender, boiler from a Rivarossi 4-4-0, modified Roundhouse cab, and scratch building the rest.

- Locomotive #2 (the Castle Finn), 1884 Baldwin 4-4-0: A Bachmann Spectrum Richmond 4-4-0 frame, drive, and drivers, Bachmann Spectrum old time Baldwin tender, boiler from a Rivarossi 4-4-0, modified Roundhouse cab, and scratch building the rest.

- Locomotive #3 (the Hopewell), 1890 Baldwin 4-6-0: A Bachman Spectrum high boilered 4-6-0 will provide the boiler and tender with a Roundhose 2-6-0 frame and drive (modified for correct driver spacing) and modified cab.

- Locomotive #4 (the Saranac), 1884 Baldwin 2-8-0: Roundhouse old time 2-8-0 with some modifications and a Spectrum Baldwin tender.

- Locomotive #5 (the Donegal), 1888 Baldwin 2-8-0: Roundhouse old time 2-8-0 with some modifications and a Spectrum Baldwin tender.

- Locomotive #6, 1891 Pittsburgh 4-6-0: Roundhouse old time 2-8-0 with front driver removed and a four wheel pilot truck added. Domes and other details need to be modified but the cab and tender should be rather close.

- Locomotive #"7" (ex. CNJ 709), 1882 Baldwin 0-6-0T: Unknown. Mostly likely a scratch building project on top of the closest avaliable frame and drivers.

Cornwall RR Ore Cars

These cars will probably all be scracth built and cast as no model out there is close enough or economical enough. See the section on modeling these cars (the link is on the previous page). It is hoped that 1/3 to 1/2 of the real quantity of cars will be sufficent. At present, a 1907 roster of ore cars is not avaliable so the 1912 quantities are listed below being the closest year with data.

- Wooden gondola, aquired second hand in 1905: #100 - 149 (47 qty. in 1912, build 15- 23?)

- Wooden hopper, aquired second hand in 1905: #150 - 250 (90 qty. in 1912, build 30- 45?)

Note: The 1912 Official Railway Equipment Regerister states that the wooden ore cars were numbered 100 - 250 and the quantity of cars for both types. The above road numbers per type are a logical hypothisis.

Cornwall RR Passenger Equipment

Research is still being done to determine how to best model the six passenger cars the Cornwall had at that time. Cars #2, 3, 5, 6, were coaches and #1 and 4 were combinines.

Cornwall & Lebanon Equipment

From Cornwall to the city of Lebanon, the Cornwall & Lebanon Railroad paralleled the Cornwall RR. Presently it is planned to model a couple C&L locomotives, with at least one being a passenger engine and the other a freight engine. Some running on C&L track is planned to mimick part of the freight and passenger traffic.

Even thought the train races (see the "History" page for more) were probably discontinued after RH Coleman lost ownership of the C&L years before 1907, there is presently no evidence for or against these races having taken place in this year. Being such a unique piece of history, this aspect is a must to model and it is planned to race passenger trains of the Cornwall RR and the C&L from Cornwall into Lebanon City.

In additon, it is planned to model the unique gas powered "trolley" (named the "Gretna") that the C&L had to help handle increased summer passenger traffic between Mount Gretna and Lebanon City.

- Locomotive #1, Baldwin 2-8-0: Roundhouse old time 2-8-0 frame, drive, and drivers, Model Power old time 0-8-0 boiler and cab (modified) and a Spectrum Baldwin tender.

- Locomotive #10, 1887 Baldwin 4-4-0: A Roundhouse old time MDC 4-4-0 frame and drive, with Bower drivers (modified), Bachmann Spectrum old time Baldwin tender, boiler from a Rivarossi 4-4-0, modified Roundhouse cab, and scratch building the rest.

- Gas powered trolley the "Gretna:" North West Shortline "Stanton Dirve" (formerly referred to as a PDT drive) with scratchbuilt superstructure.

Cornwall Ore Banks Equipment

An internchange point at Minersvillage will be with the Cornwall Ore Banks and some trackage will be modeled that was owned by this mining and rail operation. Presently it is desired to model the Cornwall Ore Banks Baldwin 0-6-0 #5 which was built in 1907. Research needs to be done to see if the ore banks operation had other locomotives in service at that time and if so, perhaps another ore banks locomotive may be modeled. In addition, the Cornwall Ore Banks had some of its own rather unique ore cars that are planned to be modeled. These, as with the Cornwall RR equipment will almost certainly have to be scratchbuilt.

- Locomotive #5, 1907 Baldwin 0-6-0: Possible Bachmann Spectrum 0-6-0T mechanism with scratchbuilt superstructure and new drivers..

Equipment from other Railroads

As if all of the above equipment is not enough, rolling stock and locomotives from other lines also appeared on the Cornwall Railroad. As part of the "Lancaster Lebanon Joint Line" (once again reference the History page for more), Philidelphia & Reading locomotives and passenger cars ran over the Cornwall RR. In addtion, freight cars from all sorts of neighboring railroads were interchanged onto the Cornwall. At present time, photos and interchange records of the C&L from the turn of the century are being studied to help determine appropriate such freight cars. See the page about modeling rolling stock from other railroads for more.
